Opera, Hiking, and Keeping Our New Year Resolution…

The Princeton Famers’ Market has moved indoors so we can shop locally sourced and produced food, gifts and goods all year round. Bring your shopping bag to the Princeton Public Library on Thursday and shop for produce, cheese, baked goods, crafts and more. 11am-5pm. www.princetonfarmersmarket.com

Friday, January 10
Start your weekend with some opera, presented by Princeton University Opera Theater. Claudio Monteverdi’s ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’ will be performed in English at Richardson Auditorium. Follow along with Monteverdi’s historic final masterpiece – the tale of Roman Emperor Nero. $10, 7:30pm. princeton.edu/music

Our New Year’s Resolution was to cut back on the amount of sugar we eat. With a sweet tooth like ours, it’s not going to be easy! Luckily, Princeton area nutritionist Kelsey Eichlin will be sharing info (and treats) at an upcoming talk at Whole Foods Market on Monday night as part of their Health Starts Here program.

Saturday, January 11
The Chemistry of Magic at Cotsen Children’s Library takes fantasy’s big names – Gandalf, Merlin, Miss Price, Harry Potter – and shows the science behind their magic. Take your tots to Grounds for Sculpture for ‘Tots on Tour.’ Storytime, an exploration of the park, and – of course – arts & crafts time make for a creative afternoon. Free with park admission, for ages 3-5. Register in advance. 11am. www.groundsforsculpture.org

Sunday, January 12
The community room at Princeton Public Library will be even more zen this Sunday afternoon, when Lara Heimann, owner of YogaStream, leads Yoga at the Library. Bring your mat and find your breath for a little afternoon yoga with one of Princeton’s well known teachers. FREE, 2pm. www.princetonlibrary.org

Get outside this weekend with a hike to Titusville’s Baldpate Mountain, for pre-teens to adults. Meet at Niederer’s Pond entrance on Church Road and embark on a hike through Washington Crossing State Park. Wear good shoes and bring water – the hike will take 3.5 hours.
